Ciao Roma.

This was taken last year in Rome (hard to believe it was almost a year ago!) after my set. It's one of the few candid photos of me that I like, so I'm putting it up here. Thanks to Claudio for sending it to me. That's Claudio on the left.

Thoughts.

Monday, August 21, 2006

What a nice weekend. Just chilled. Did some art on Saturday. Went for my run yesterday and ended up in Wicker Park. Watched the planes go by, the Blue Angels. I started thinking about the War in Iraq and those bad-ass fighter planes. They've got to use them against somebody, some enemy, or else it's just air shows. Millions of dollars to fly in circles.

I think the Marines should go into space, like "Aliens." But then again, there's nobody to fight out there.

Yet.

Leaving the park, who do I almost literally run into but Jeff Mills and his wife. I hadn't seen him in almost a year. He's back briefly. Always in and out. I seem like such a slacker compared to him, but everybody can't be Mills. I congratulated him on the Axis driving accessories, I think that's a brilliant idea, so off the wall. I think I may be the only one, though.

Spent all last night working on a new track, another trip-hop one. I really like doing that kind of music. Slow, sexy and funky. And you get to use voices that you can't normally use on techno tracks. You get to be warm, rounded and organic. Techno is so flat and compressed. Only so much you can do there. I like shit round and sexy.

My big thing is the music they use in the "C.S.I." (original and Miami, I don't watch NY) autopsy scenes. Just really cool mood music. I've heard Massive Attack, Zero 7, Sneaker Pimps, and Maurizio tracks (yes, they used "M5"!) on there. I also used to like the background music on "X-Files."

Giaxia says the music I like is "depressing." But I call it cinematic, stylish and moody =)

The new CD goes to the plant this week. I can't wait! Thanks for all the feedback on Myspace about the cover art. T. Linder did a fantastic job. I'm motivated to make more new stuff now just so he can package it. Oh, and thanks to Steve Tang for pre-mastering it. His post-production rig is incredible.

So today, I'm out to run a few errands. Gotta ship these paintings to L.A. ahead of me. It's gorgeous out there. Not too many of these days left.

I am really happy right now, I must say. I haven't felt like this in forever.

Another Beautiful Day.

Another beautiful day in the Chi. I love these days. Just finishing my daily e-mails/checking Myspace and stuff. I'm getting over my cold and my nose is all healed up.

I've got a DJ set sitting here that I'm gonna upload soon. It was recorded in St. Louis back when STL was good. It's one of my best recorded sets ever. 100% driving techno. I'm trying to figure out where I'm gonna put it, on my site or Myspace.

Also finishing up the new CD, finally. It's going to the plant early next week. My first new CD in four years. Hopefully it'll be done in time for L.A.

Speaking of L.A., art show coming up! I'm excited. I *love* L.A. as you know. If I thought I could make a living out there, I would have gone a long time ago. Oh well, jetsetting between Chicago and Berlin, poor baby. Anyway, trying to get all my L.A./Hollywood heads out to the show and will be sending a big e-mail soon with the address of the gallery. I did four new pieces for the show.

Turns out I'm playing an underground party while I'm out there too, a kinda last minute thing. It's a new promoter. He seems pretty cool so far, but that can change ;-)

OK, I'm getting out into this day. Going to the cafe to draw, then I've got dinner tonight with Giaxia, then going to master the new CD at Steve Tang's studio.

I can't stress enough how much I'm loving this summer!

PS: A few people have bought the "Product, Baby, Product" art book from Cafepress along with some other goodies there. Thanks for your interest and support!

More Randomness.

Wednesday, August 09, 2006

I'm stuck in the house with a summer cold. I was doing good, too. I haven't been sick since October, '05, almost a year. And my nose is all irritated from blowing too much and I look like I seriously put a blowtorch to it. I look like the Elephant Man for real. So I'm laying low.

Other than that, it's unbelievable how well the summer has treated me. Chicago has been a lot of fun. I'm really feeling at home here now after almost three years (!). And my first West Coast gallery show is in L.A. in less than a month. I'm really excited about that.

Also going back to Berlin for awhile this fall for some gigs. I truly love it there.

After a long, painful, frustrating process where I went thru several designers, T. Linder has finally come through with the CD cover design for my new album. It killed me when I first saw it. I love it. I'm previewing it for you here.

Since I'm stuck in the house I watched "Ultraviolet" again. I really like that movie! The commentary was bunk, though. It wasn't the director, it was Milla herself. She sounded so dizzy. Like, Oh My God, Becky. I couldn't take it.

Leave some comments, bitches.
