Black Girl From The Futureā„¢ Handbag.

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

If you're a regular on this blog or my Myspace page you've seen glimpses of my latest character Vectra: Black Girl from The Future (issue zero coming in 2009 in full painted color from Pure Comics). Anyway, I painted this little handbag last night while watching movies ("Ultraviolet" for the zillionth time, I love the action set pieces in it, as well as the art direction, and of course Milla). It turned out way better than I expected. They were giving away these little bags in Wittenberg, Germany (gig I played with Chroma) last year as promo. They had a white front that was perfect to paint on. I just painted over the logo. Ben Sims' ex-girlfriend Sunny suggested I paint gym shoes as well, hip-hop style, I think I'll do that also.

On the music front, I'm waiting to get one more piece of gear before I start making new techno shit, so hold tight.

PS: Click the player below to hear some of the new trip-hop stuff.

The Inside.

Thursday, July 24, 2008

Here's the first look/listen at my new trip-hop/atmospheric project from me and my friends, The Inside. I've been talking about it on this blog for over two years, and here it is finally! "Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends" is the title of the CD and it'll be out in September on xfive/Pure Sonik in a limited pressing of 100. Meanwhile, I've got the first track, "On The Inside," cued up below so just press play and check it out! It's not techno at all. Also, you can click pic to see it bigger. Leave some feedback if you like.

Over and out.

Summertime.

Thursday, July 17, 2008

I can't believe summer's half over. Didn't it just start?

Working hard on the new stuff. There's gonna be a lot of it. I've got a lot of free time this summer so I'm taking advantage of it. The long-awaited CD from my trip-hop project The Inside hits this fall. And I've been upgrading my studio all summer. And I've been heavy working on comics these past few months as well as commissioned paintings. And Giaxia has also been threatening to upgrade the Alan Oldham website.

Nothing more concrete I'm afraid. But when the time is right, all will be revealed unto you.

I haven't played an American gig in all of 2008. I only have the one coming up in Pittsburgh (TriUMF Festival). Super promoter, very professional. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm really looking forward to that one. I still like playing a lot of places in America if I can (just not Detroit or Chicago, ha ha). Unfortunately, people like either super-hardcore 155 bpm schranz or dead-slow 118 bpm minimal and as usual, I'm neither =P

I also get to visit the Warhol Museum while I'm in town, always a must when visiting PGH. There are a couple of Basquiats there, too. It's like a pilgrimage for me. Hopefully they'll allow cameras.

Also back in Europe next month for ten days for a mini-tour. I'll be in Berlin from 25-29 August so if you wanna hang out let me know. When I'm in town, nobody's doing anything then when I'm back in the States all my friends there invite me out thinking I'm still there. Hmm maybe it's on purpose.

Been watching:
Blade: The Series on DVD
Rome: The Complete Second Season on DVD
77 Sunset Strip on METV Chicago

Been reading:
The Jean-Michel Basquiat Show
Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons
Entertainment Weekly
Interview

Just bought:
Korg Kaoss Pad KP3

Next on the gear list:
Alesis Micron

One of my favorite comic artists online:
Paul Pope

Some dap for my friends' band (playing Subterranean in Chicago 12 August):
Essenza

And have you seen this yet???? I'm geeked.
