Art Show Preview.

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Here's a preview of my next art show. Looking at new galleries in Chicago and Berlin to exhibit in. Doing a CD to accompany the show. The full Oldham experience, art and music. That's what it's all about.

Been A Long Time.

Thursday, July 09, 2009

Man, it's been a long time since I've blogged! But I fear that Twitter has kinda taken over. Why write whole paragraphs when you can just write 140 characters? You can check my Twitter box on the left for daily updates. I also just got a new camera, so photos from my worldwide DJ gigs will resume shortly.

Other than that, I'm having a great time despite the Year Of The Shiesty Time-Wasting Promoters. It's leaving me with a lot of time to make new tracks, plan the next Pure Sonik releases and get my newest comic book and art shows off the ground (haven't done a gallery show since 2007). All of which will be coming between now and the end of 2009.

Which is not to say I'm not out DJing. I was just in Madrid for the second time in three months, I go to Toronto in mid-August, followed by a short German tour (Berlin and Dresden). This just might be the last tour where I play vinyl. Time for a new approach music-wise, so stay tuned.

Thanks to all of you who supported the Johnny Gambit graphic novel/LP/CD! It is completely sold out at retail, and we have a few left for mailorder here at Pure Sonik HQ. The German-language version is on the way, Giaxia was just working on it. Check some preview pages from Johnny Gambit 02 below. One of my goals with the 2.0 version of Pure Sonik is there will be a lot of my art content as well as music.

And now a word about Michael Jackson. I'll keep it short since the media has been full-blast about him. I was shocked to hear about his death. He was only 50. Although his later years had been troubled, he still provided the soundtrack of my whole lifetime. I was in the first grade when "I Want You Back" and "ABC" came out. I was in the second grade when "Ben" came out. I was in middle school when the Jacksons' "Destiny" album came out. I was fresh out of high school when "Thriller" came out. I was at Wayne State when "Bad" came out. I was making techno music and playing the Midwest with Woody McBride when "Scream" came out.

I think poor Michael was ultimately one of those people who was too fragile and brilliant for the cold, cruel world. What we may have thought was bizarre was him moving on a completely different level. I think the legacy of positivity he left the world will overshadow the "Wacko Jacko" stuff, though. And the good news is that younger people will really listen to his music now, how well it was made, the lyricism. He'll be a huge pop star all over again, which is important since in the last 15 years he's been kind of a freak to these kids, this weirdo guy. The best news is, you can choose which face and era you like best and that can be your Michael (the above is based on my favorite MJ video and I love how cool him and Jan are together in it). Kinda like how Jesus would be if he came back, everyone would see him their own way.
