If you're in downtown L.A. starting July 9th, I've got a piece in the group show UNEARTHED at the Crewest Gallery. Photo of it above. 14" x 18", acrylic, Doc Martin watercolor, Sharpie and spray paint on canvas. I did it in a two day marathon. Was cool to do color as well. My techno (Djax-Up) audience doesn't like when I do color, just B&W. But this is a graf/Pop Art crowd in L.A. Click image to make bigger.

This is what's going on in my art studio now, except for the first piece. I did that on the wall of a club in Glasgow after I played! Please note the gatefold album cover (second from the top) that was rejected by the client after all the detail I put in (including likenesses of all the various artists, when I hate drawing likenesses). But this is why we take deposits upfront. You'll be able to see it in person this fall in Berlin. And I did the Marvel pieces a while ago, but still love them. They'll be in the Berlin show as well. More info as we get closer.

Mark Bradford at the Museum of Modern Art, Chicago. 6/7/11

Mark Bradford is a very interesting artist from L.A. He's only been making art for 10 years and he's got major museum shows. I saw he was a young (-ish) black guy, and I perked up. Black modernists/abstract artists are very rare. Usually "black" art is considered "folk" art and consists of either old blues guys, old jazz guys, slaves/plantation images, or black velvet paintings of Tupac and Biggie. Very unusual style of layered collage, which is why I don't call him a painter. His use/recasting of advertising and pop images is in line with Warhol and Basquiat, in my opinion, while his collage technique is in line with Rauschenberg. Very inspiring stuff, look for me to bite some of his style in my own paintings.
