Pure Sonik Manifesto.

Thursday, March 29, 2007

It's been a quiet few days in Chicago, the calm before the storm as I'm going back to Berlin next month for tour. Going over is always a hassle with two months worth of luggage and records. Yeah, boohoo, poor baby.

First stop in Berlin: Space Hall to buy some new records! Haven't bought new records in ages.

I'm getting a lot of interesting art jobs in lately, a few of which I'll be doing while over there. Can't talk about them yet, though!

The trip-hop album continues with Jimmy and Jane for Fall 2007 release on xfive. It's really evolving into something special. It's the album I've been trying to make since since "Enginefloatreactor." I'll post a link soon so you can hear what's going on. I'm also working on some new Detroitrocketscience stuff, the new chill-out alias I introduced on "The Art of Transformation."

Nothing else really to report except puresonikrecords.net will be relaunched soon. Giaxia is doing the design, it's fucking hot. Wanna do something cool to promote it but haven't figured out what.

Check the above video. It was "lost" until recently! I shot it back in '95 to promote "Pure Sonik Manifesto" for $500. It aired once on MTV UK's "Party Zone." The whole video was shot in Detroit including the party scenes. Detroit used to rock back in the day!

Sold Out.

I am happy to announce that this CD is now SOLD OUT and due to popular demand we'll be going back for a second limited run later this spring. Thanks for your support! It's good to know you're out there!

Gamma Player.

Saturday, March 17, 2007

Went to the opening reception for Jeff Mills' new store Gamma Player the other night. Loved the store, black and minimal. The clothes on offer are very exclusive couture from France and Japan with t-shirts that start at $60.

Champagne and finger food was served. Only a close-knit group and friends and family were invited and I was glad to be among them. I was surprised to see Zana from Spectacles in Detroit make an appearance. I hadn't seen her in literally years. A friend of Yoko's from Tokyo even came in for one day to attend.

Jeff's mom was stylin'. Her hair was 100% Diana Ross. Got to love the old-school black women, the true soul sisters, they have style. We went from Lt. Uhura, Nancy Wilson, and Diahann Carroll to Lil Kim, New York, and Superhead. SMH.

Giaxia showed up after I did. She was wearing her tall, sexy black boots. She's like 6' in them, I love that. Mmm mmm mmm.

Tim Baker told me that the rumor around town was that I'd gone back to Detroit. I found that quite odd. But I completely stopped going out to clubs/DJ events/spinning in Chicago over a year ago, so I can see why people would think that, I suppose. I save all my going-out for Berlin, when I'm not playing out myself.

At the end of the evening, Jeff passed out small gift bags with the Gamma Player logo embossed on them, black on black. Inside was a copy of the special Gamma Player CD compilation available only at the store, and a Gamma Player flyer. Class and style.

Overall, Gamma Player looks like it's gonna be a hit, and I wish Jeff and Yoko lots of success with their new venture.

If you're in Chicago, visit Gamma Player at 2035 West Division in Wicker Park, Chicago, 60622. Tel: 773-235-0755.

Off to dinner in Chinatown with Giaxia. Talk later.

Blah Blah Blah.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Well spring has sprung! It's so warm out there you don't need a coat. It's insane. It's supposed to be back cold again tomorrow, though. I hate Chicago. LOL.

Not much new to report. Work, work, work. Jimmy gave me his cold and I've been fighting through that the past few days. I get a lot of colds, I need to see a doctor. This must be what it's like to be in a band. One guy gets something and everyone gets sick.

We laid down some vocals for the trip-hop album last week with Jane. It turned out great. It's like pro work, something you'd hear on the radio or in a movie. My stuff has never sounded this good before. Jim and Jane are taking it to a new level.

I ship the artwork to Berlin this week for the gallery show. Excited about that. Also touring my ass off while I'm in Europe, see dates on the left. More to be announced. 2007 has started off so nicely for me and I'm thankful for that.

I haven't really worked on JOHNNY GAMBIT in a while. Busy with the new paintings/fighting a cold/sleeping/working on the trip-hop album. I'll get back to it when I'm in Berlin. I get a lot of artwork done when I'm over there. When the first issue is complete I'll begin shopping it.

I have contacted three of my favorite comic artists via e-mail and Myspace over the past months about doing some alternate covers for the first issue and none of them have gotten back to me. I'm offering money, of course. If you're too booked, just hit me back right quick and say you can't do it. I mean, what is that?

Speaking of comics, "300" (based on a Frank Miller comic) opened at $70 million (!) so I guess it's a hit. Haven't seen it yet, though. Now you see why I'm back doing comics.

So I kinda know one of the girls on "America's Top Model" this season. There's this girl on there named Sarah Von. She is friends with this kid Derrick, who used to live in my building, and who was/is a male model (he looks like an Abercrombie model, you girls would love him). A real "six degrees" type-thing. Sarah's an actual model here in Chicago. Been in magazines, the whole bit. I actually ran into her last year in Wicker Park while I was out jogging. Now I look up and she's famous.

This, of course, means I'm three degrees from HER.

Jeff and Yoko are having an opening reception for their store day after tomorrow over on Division. I guess me and Giaxia will check it out. It would be nice if it was as warm as it is today, but it'll be back to freezing by then.

The Neon Sex Fiend "Elektrofive" is finally in pre-order phase and is also being supported by Dave Clarke on his Whitenoise radio show. It's 100% electro with lyrics and vocals by me and remixes by DJ K-1, Ultradyne and Miles Christian. Have a listen.

My friend Darius told me his father died. I'm really sorry for his loss. I was looking forward to chillin' with Darius when I went back to Berlin, but he'll be in the USA tending to family matters the whole time I'm there. =(

Shout-out this time to Sleepy and Boo from NYC for their super-professionalism.

Another Satisfied Customer.

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Last week, I shipped my London art patron's portraits to her. She was nice enough to let me put one of them in my L.A. and Chicago art shows (she liked the idea of people gazing at her), but I figured it was time for her to have her paintings. Here's one of the paintings and the e-mail she sent me when she got the shipment.
